Core & 16th St.

The City of Yuma has selected Core Engineering Group to provide design services for the high-profile project of 16th Street and 4th Avenue intersection reconstruction and widening. Assembling a design team that includes James Davey & Associates and Kimley-Horn and Associates, Core will function as the prime consultant, project manager, and roadway designer for the project.

The selection is a major win for the three-year old local Yuma consulting firm. The project's total value is programmed at $17 million to widen and dramatically increase capacity of one of the busiest intersections in the city. Core's design team was selected over a competitive field of national design firms from the Phoenix area. The project begins at Arizona Avenue along 16th Street and terminates at 6th Avenue, while also including 4th Avenue reconstruction from 14th Place to 17th Place.

Core has had plenty of experience with large, complex, and high-profile projects, such as Segment 3 of the Robert A. Vaughan Expressway (a.k.a. ASH), City of Yuma's 24th Street improvements from Avenue 6E to Avenue 9E, Somerton's Jefferson Street improvement project, and more. The win over other firms with bigger names and deeper pockets testifies to an ongoing track-record of an intelligent balance of teaming with national resources and Core's local knowledge and availability, as borne out by the team members that joined Core for this project.

Construction is estimated to begin in late 2008. Check back for updates and pictures as the project progresses!
